Chinese New Year Coming to Boca Bayou

by | Jun 1, 2022 | Blog

As if the start of a new decade – the 2020s! – isn’t enough to get excited about, we also have the Chinese New Year to look forward to at Boca Bayou in Boca Raton. It falls on January 25 and for the Chinese it is one of the biggest events of the year. According to the Chinese zodiac, 2020 will be a Year of the Rat. (Undoubtedly, there are people living in Boca Bayou rentals and condominium homes who were born in previous Rat years, but those are the only rats we have!)

ChineseNewYear.net says, “The Rat is the first of all zodiac animals. According to one myth, the Jade Emperor said the order would be decided by the order in which they arrived to his party. The Rat tricked the Ox into giving him a ride. Then, just as they arrived at the finish line, Rat jumped down and landed ahead of Ox, becoming first.”

What to Expect in The Year of the Rat

“The Rat is the Chinese zodiac sign known for being inquisitive, shrewd, and resourceful,” Readers Digest reports. “The Rat is also the first in the rotation of the 12 zodiac signs, meaning that a Rat year is a year of renewal. So when a Rat year comes, it generally delivers new experiences with favorable outcomes for all of the signs.”

Previous Years of the Rat include 1912, 1924, 1936, 1948, 1960, 1972, 1984, 1996, 2008 (in other words, every 12 years). What does it mean if you were born in a Rat year?

.ChineseNewYear.net says that Rats are:

  • a sign of wealth and surplus
  • clever
  • quick thinkers
  • successful
  • content with living a quiet and peaceful life.
  • optimistic and energetic
  • likable
  • sensitive to other’s emotions
