I’m Lynn Johnsen, your Boca Bayou condo guide and a year-round Boca Raton resident. Summer in Boca Raton is one of the best-kept secrets in South Florida. The snowbirds have gone home, the beaches open up, and the city fills with free concerts, food festivals, and outdoor experiences that remind you exactly why you chose to live here. Here’s your guide to kickstarting summer in Boca Raton.
Summer in Boca Raton: The Beach Is Your Backyard
First, let’s talk about the beach. South Beach Park and Spanish River Park are two of the best stretches of sand in Palm Beach County. In summer, they feel like your own private retreats once the seasonal crowds thin out. Spanish River Park also offers covered picnic pavilions, nature trails through coastal hammock, and direct beach access. It’s the kind of place you can spend an entire Saturday without spending much at all.
Also, Gumbo Limbo Nature Center on North Ocean Boulevard kicks into high gear this time of year. Nighttime Turtle Walks run Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings from May 26 through July 2, starting at 8:45 PM. Participants watch as Gumbo Limbo staff locate nesting loggerhead sea turtles on Boca Raton beaches — one of the most remarkable natural events you can witness in South Florida. Tickets are $20 for non-residents and $15 for Boca residents, and they sell out fast. Book through the City of Boca Raton’s Webtrac system as soon as possible.
Free Summer Concerts at Mizner Park: Summer in the City
One of the best parts of summer in Boca Raton is the free Summer in the City concert series at Mizner Park Amphitheater (590 Plaza Real). Three nights, zero dollars, and great music — right in Boca Bayou’s backyard.
On Friday, June 26, The Long Run brings a full Eagles tribute to the amphitheater. Harmonies, guitar work, and the full catalog. Then on Friday, July 17, Yvad & The Legal Roots perform a Bob Marley tribute — Yvad is the former lead singer of The Wailers band, so this one is the real deal. Finally, on Friday, August 7, Peace of Woodstock Band closes out the summer series. Bring a chair, grab dinner at Mizner Park beforehand, and enjoy a South Florida summer night the right way.
Kickstarting Summer in Boca Raton with a Fork: Boca Burger Battle
Next up, on Saturday, July 11, the 13th Annual Boca Burger Battle takes over Sanborn Square Park (72 N Federal Highway) from 6–10 PM. South Florida’s top chefs compete head-to-head for the title of Best Battle Burger, and your all-inclusive ticket covers unlimited burgers, craft beer, wine, spirits, and live music all night. Past competitors have included Yard House, Lazy Dog, and PZZA — and winning chefs have gone on to national recognition. It’s a 21+ event, and tickets go fast. Grab yours at bocaburgerbattle.com.
Summer Activities for Families in Boca Raton
Meanwhile, families are well covered too. The City of Boca Raton Recreation Services Department runs more than 30 summer camp programs from June 1 through August 7, covering STEM, performing arts, athletics, and marine biology. Programs start as young as age 4. Check myboca.us for the full lineup and registration details. Also, Yoga in the Park runs every Saturday morning at 9 AM at Sanborn Square — free, outdoors, and a great way to start a summer weekend in Boca Raton.
