Benjamin Moore Paints selected as their Color of the Year for 2020 a shade called First Light.
“A fresh palette. A revitalized spirit. A soft, rosy hue blooming with potential. Benjamin Moore’s Color of the Year 2020, First Light 2102-70, is the backdrop for a bright new decade,” the company’s website gushes.
When the selection was announced last fall, Benjamin Moore’s director of color marketing and development, Andrea Magno, gave AD PRO an idea of the thinking behind the choice. “When you look at color over time there is often a direct relationship between what shades are popular and what is happening in the world. At the brink of 2020 we were just thinking, ‘Let’s be upbeat; let’s be happy.’,” she said.
For its 2020 Color of the Year, Sherwin-Williams went in a different direction. Naval, a close cousin of navy blue, was their choice. “It is reminiscent of the night sky, which people have looked to for centuries for guidance, as a muse and as a reminder to live more mindfully,” the company’s director of color marketing, Sue Wadden, said.
“Even though Sherwin-Williams opted for a decidedly different color than First Light, the company still found a way to officially nod to the current pale pink trend,” Architectural Digest says. “For the HGTV Home by Sherwin-Williams collection, the company named Romance, a soft, dusty shade of pink, its 2020 pick.”
