I’m Lynn Johnsen, your Boca Bayou condo guide and a year-round Boca Raton resident. August in Boca Raton is peak summer — hot, lush, and full of things to do if you know where to look. The seasonal crowd is long gone, the beaches are wide open, and this month has a surprisingly packed calendar. Here’s your guide to August events in Boca Raton this month.
August Events Boca Raton: Battle of the Bands – August 7
First up, this Friday night. The 6th Annual Battle of the Bands returns to Mizner Park Amphitheater (590 Plaza Real) on Friday, August 7, doors at 6 PM, show at 7 PM — and it’s completely free. Eight local bands take the stage in 20-minute sets competing for a $2,500 prize in two age brackets: under 20 and over 20. This year’s under-20 lineup features Plan 9, Prickly Dogfish, The Ruffles, and The Introverts. Competing for the over-20 crown: Rock Candy, Box of Rocks, Foxy Dubs, and The Marina Effect, who won last year. Also, a Pop-Up Youth Market of young makers and entrepreneurs ages 13–20 fills out the amphitheater grounds throughout the evening. This marks the final night of Boca Raton’s free Summer in the City series — a great way to close it out.
Piano and Poetry at St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church – August 7
Also on Friday, August 7, St. Gregory’s Episcopal Church (100 NE Mizner Blvd, Boca Raton) hosts an evening of Piano and Poetry at 6 PM. Organist and composer Tim Brumfield — a longtime member of the Paul Winter Consort who has performed alongside Judy Collins and jazz legend Max Roach — performs solo piano while readings from Robert Frost, Maya Angelou, William Shakespeare, and others fill the space. Admission is free with a $25 suggested donation. The evening concludes with a wine and hors d’oeuvres reception. To RSVP, email office@st-gregorys.com. Moreover, it’s one of those only-in-Boca evenings that you’d be hard-pressed to find anywhere else.
Orchid Extravaganza at Mounts Botanical Garden – August 8
On Saturday, August 8, Mounts Botanical Garden (531 N Military Trail, West Palm Beach) hosts Speakers Day 2026: “The Great Orchid Extravaganza” from 9 AM to 5 PM. Expert cultivators from Florida Suncoast Orchids, Barefoot Orchids, Lady Vanda, and Winter Haven Orchid Nursery lead a full day of presentations, an orchid auction, a judging session from the American Orchid Society, vendor sales, a boxed lunch, and full admission to the gardens. Tickets are $50 for members and $70 for non-members. Additionally, it’s a beautiful drive up Military Trail and one of the most unique South Florida events of the summer.
Arts Warehouse First Friday – August 7
Another standout among August events in Boca Raton’s surrounding area — Arts Warehouse in Delray Beach (313 NE Third St) opens two new exhibitions on Friday, August 7 from 6–9 PM as part of First Friday Art Walk. “Of Nature and Spirit” gathers four Florida artists whose surreal, spiritual works wrestle with flora and fauna — including lush paintings by Tom De Vita, Hal Yalsulka, and Kathleen Kinkopf, paired with human-animal sculptures by Amarelle Kukići. Meanwhile, the East Gallery premieres “New Nostalgia,” a solo show of Andrew Soria’s pop surrealist photographs of urban landscapes including Miami’s Wynwood. Both shows run through September 26. Free admission.
Back to School in Boca Raton – August 2026
For families in southeast Boca, August also means getting ready for the new school year. Palm Beach County public schools return on Monday, August 10 — so if you have kids, the countdown is on. First, the district serves Boca Raton with several strong schools in the area, including J.C. Mitchell Elementary, Boca Raton Elementary, Addison Mizner Elementary, Boca Raton Community Middle, and Boca Raton Community High School — all within easy reach of Boca Bayou.
Also, if you’re new to the area or still exploring neighborhoods, school zoning is something I always walk buyers through. Southeast Boca Raton has excellent school options and the location makes drop-off and pickup genuinely convenient. Meanwhile, for families looking for private options, the area is home to several well-regarded schools including Saint Andrew’s School, The Oxbridge Academy, and American Heritage School nearby in Plantation.
Finally, for a last-minute back to school supply run, Town Center at Boca Raton is minutes away — Target, Apple, and every store you need are all under one roof. Squeeze in one more beach morning before the alarm goes off on August 10.
